Customer emails
NXCart emails your customers when they order, when you ship, refund or send a payment link, when their downloads are ready, and for back-in-stock alerts and review requests. You can put these emails in your own words, and a developer can change their layout.
Writing your own text
Go to NXCart → Settings → Emails → Customer email text.
- Choose the Email, and the Language if your site has more than one.
- Fill in any of:
- Subject
- Opening paragraph, shown instead of NXCart's opening line
- Closing paragraph, added at the end of the email
- Click Preview to see the email with an example order, or Send me a test to get it in your own inbox (the email address of your Joomla user).
- Click Save email text.
A field left empty keeps NXCart's text, which is shown greyed out in the field. The order details, buttons and links are always NXCart's.
The text is plain text: line breaks are kept, and anything that looks like HTML is shown as typed. You can use these tokens:
| Token | Becomes |
|---|---|
{order_number} | The order number |
{customer_name} | The customer's name from the billing address |
{store_name} | Your store name |
{product_name} | The product, in back-in-stock emails |
A token an email has no value for, such as {product_name} in an order confirmation, is left empty.
Each language has its own text. An order is emailed in the language it was placed in; languages you did not write text for use NXCart's.
Changing the layout (for developers)
Every NXCart email, including the ones to the store owner, can be overridden in your site template, like any Joomla component view:
- Copy the email from
administrator/components/com_nxcart/templates/email/, for exampleorder_shipped.php. - Put the copy in
templates/<your site template>/html/com_nxcart/email/. - Edit the copy.
NXCart uses the copy from then on, for emails sent from the shop, the admin and payment notifications alike. It uses your site's default template.
An override gets the same variables as the original. Build no links yourself: use the ones in $links. The customer emails also get $emailText, the text written in the settings; print it the way the original file does, with EmailTexts::html(), so it stays escaped. When NXCart updates, compare your copy with the new original.
