Accessibility statement
Since June 2025 the European Accessibility Act asks online shops that sell to consumers in the EU to be accessible to people with disabilities, and to say how accessible they are in an accessibility statement. NXCart gives you a page for that statement.
Filling it in
Go to NXCart → Settings → General → Accessibility statement:
- How well the shop meets WCAG 2.1 level AA: fully, partially or not conformant. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard accessibility is measured against. The page says this is your own assessment.
- Contact for accessibility problems: an email address; empty uses your store email.
- Last reviewed: when you last checked the statement.
- What does not work well yet: known problems and what shoppers can do instead.
- Publish the accessibility statement: available once you have chosen a status.
Until it is published, the page says the statement is being prepared and asks search engines not to index it.
What to write under "What does not work well yet"
List what you know about, in plain words, with an alternative where there is one. Some things to consider:
- Invoice PDFs are not tagged for screen readers. The same details are on the order page and in the order email, so you can say so.
- Content you add yourself: product images without descriptions, videos without captions, text in images.
- Your site template and other extensions: NXCart only answers for its own pages and parts.
Adding it to your site
The statement needs to be easy to find, usually next to your terms and privacy policy. In Joomla, go to Menus, add a menu item to your footer or legal menu, and choose the type NXCart → Accessibility statement.
What NXCart does
NXCart's shop pages, checkout and admin are built and tested to WCAG 2.1 level AA: keyboard use, screen readers, zoom and small screens, colour contrast in the light and dark themes, and Windows High Contrast. So NXCart's own parts will not hold your shop back from "fully conformant".
What NXCart cannot answer for is the rest of your site: your template, other extensions, and your own content such as product images without descriptions or text inside images. Check those before you choose a status, and list anything that falls short under "What does not work well yet".
