Brands
Brands group your products by who makes them. Each brand gets its own page in the shop, and it carries the manufacturer details that EU product-safety law (GPSR) asks you to show on every listing, so you enter them once per brand instead of on every product.
Adding a brand
Open NXCart → Brands and click Add brand.
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Brand | The name shoppers see. Required. |
| Logo | Shown on the brand's page. Pick it with Joomla's media manager. |
| Website | The brand's own site. |
| Description | Shown on the brand's page, above its products. |
| Published | An unpublished brand, its page and its safety details are hidden from the shop. |
Under Product safety (EU GPSR):
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer (legal name) | The company that makes the products, e.g. Northwind Studio GmbH. |
| Postal address | The manufacturer's address. |
| Country | Two-letter code such as DE, US or CN. |
| Email or contact page | How to reach the manufacturer electronically. |
| EU responsible person, with its address and email or contact page | Required when the manufacturer is outside the EU: the company in the EU that is responsible for the product. The form asks for it as soon as you enter a non-EU country. |
The brand list shows how many products each brand has and flags Safety details incomplete, naming what is missing. The Dashboard's EU consumer rules card counts the products that still need complete details.
Deleting a brand keeps its products; they just lose their brand.
Giving products a brand
On a product's General tab, choose its Brand. Two more fields there belong to the product itself:
- Product identifier (type, batch or serial number): how the product can be identified, as GPSR asks.
- Safety information: warnings and safety instructions, in the language of the country you sell to.
With Show product safety information on in Settings → General, the product page shows all of it in a Product safety information section. See Product safety information.
To give many products a brand at once, use a spreadsheet: see Brands in CSV files.
Brand pages in the shop
Every published brand has a page listing its products, headed by its logo and description, with the same sorting, paging and search as category pages.
- Address: a brand page sits under your shop, like
/shop/brand/northwind-studio. To put it in a menu, create a menu item of the type NXCart → Store Brand and pick the brand; the page then uses that menu item's address. - Product pages link to it with More from brand name.
- Search engines see each product's brand in its structured data.
- Sitemaps: with OSMap, brand pages are listed in your sitemap, except brands without a product to show.
Brands in the products module
The NXCart - Products module (featured, latest or on-sale products) has a Brand option. Choose a brand to show only its products, for example a "New from Northwind Studio" block, or leave All brands.
Brands in CSV files
CSV import and export carry brands by name. On import, a brand is matched to an existing one ignoring upper and lower case, or created when it is new. An empty brand cell never removes a brand you set by hand.
| Format | Column |
|---|---|
| NXCart (Native) | brand, plus gpsr_identifier and gpsr_safety_info for each product's identifier and safety information |
| Shopify | Vendor |
| WooCommerce | Brands (the first brand listed) |
| VirtueMart, HikaShop, Phoca Cart | the manufacturer |
The quickest way to give many products their brand: export in the NXCart format, fill in the brand column in a spreadsheet, and import the file with Update existing products turned on. See Import & Export.
