Smart Embeds

Smart Embeds replaces supported blocked iframes with a local placeholder that explains why the content is held and offers a deliberate way to load it.

Enable it

  1. Open Options → Smart Embeds in NexusConsent Pro.
  2. Select the providers you use.
  3. Switch Enable Smart Embeds on and save.
  4. Check that effective consent rules cover those embeds.
  5. Open a page with an embed in a private window and test before and after consent.

The main switch is off by default; all provider types are initially selected. Enabling or changing the provider selection requires usable license access. You can turn an enabled feature off without renewed access by leaving its provider selection unchanged.

Supported content

  • YouTube, including YouTube No-Cookie.
  • Vimeo.
  • Google Maps.
  • OpenStreetMap.
  • Spotify.
  • Other blocked iframe content through a generic fallback.

This feature decorates an iframe the consent engine has already blocked. It does not replace your blocking rules or turn arbitrary scripts into embed placeholders.

What visitors can do

The placeholder offers two distinct actions:

  • Load once: load this selected embed on this page without changing the visitor's saved category consent. The third-party service receives the request needed to load the embed.
  • Review consent: open the existing consent controls for the category that governs the embed.

Load once does not grant permanent permission, load every embed, or require a page reload. Other blocked frames remain held until the visitor acts on them or grants the relevant category.

Placeholder artwork is bundled locally. A blocked YouTube frame does not fetch a YouTube thumbnail merely to draw the placeholder.

Verify the setup

Check that the provider is selected, the engine is compatible and enabled, and a rule blocks the iframe in the intended category. Setup Health includes Smart Embeds configuration checks.

In the browser, confirm that the placeholder appears before consent, both actions work with a keyboard, load once affects only the selected frame, and granting the category restores eligible content.

Already configured placeholders continue when license access lapses, while the Pro plugin is installed. Removing Pro removes its placeholder enhancement; the retained consent engine still enforces its blocking rules.
